[Honda-C70] newbie with question

Hi!
My dad has a Honda C100 and I think it is from 1968. It was stored for about 30 or 35 years. Last year a guy I work with got it running and it ran fine. Now it has set over the winter and my dad started it periodically but didn't drive it. (it's a little hard in the Iowa snow). We got it out a few weeks ago and it will start fine but as soon as we put it in gear it kills. Or if we use the brake and stop it. If we put it on the stand and put it in gear the back wheel just starts going. Any ideas on what to do?
Thanks for any help you can give us.
Julie
