[Honda-C70] Re: bicycle brake cable as replacement throttle cable

 

Hello Kevin,
I actually used this same fix for some time on my '82 C70. My old cable snapped and I happened to have a stash of bicycle parts including several brake cables. I cut down the new cable to the original size and soldered the carburetor end nub from the old cable onto the new one. It worked so well that I forgot about it until it snapped on me about 3000 miles later while accelerating from a stop light in heavy traffic. Scary. My cable had frayed and broke at soldered end that goes into the hand grip. The strands of the cable are wound differently using a different guage wire than a correct cable and it doesn't seem to stand up to this type of use forever. It's definitely a viable temporary fix but be ready if it snaps. Enjoy your new C70!
