I took mine off the scooter. The oil tank was fine but the gas tank was pretty rusty. I have used this method several times with good effect. I get a bottle of Grandma Molasses and put 4oz in a gallon of hot water. while that is mixing up, I will take some aquarium gravel and put it in the tank and slosh it around a lot so that it breaks up the rust and then pour it all out. I then fill the tank with the mix all the way up to the top. If you don't have a fuel shut off you can use a vacuum cap to plug the opening. I then let it all sit for about a week or two and usually, when I pour it out, the tank will be pretty clean. If you wish, you can repeat the process. If you are in a hurry, Eastwood sells a kit that requires a process that involves muriatic acid and acetone. I have used it and it works but it is toxic during the process. Good luck when you drain the tank.

Thanks for the response. I had a 1983 urban express once. Very cool
looking scooter but rode like crap. Got a fair amount of carb bench
time with that one.
Anything special with the gas tank cleaning? Never had to do more
than drain them before. This one still has gas in it so I'm not sure
what the condiion is. The gas cap has a fair amount of corrosion on
the inside.
