RE: [Honda-C70] Re: lean

Yes the timing can be adjusted if it has points . Read the section in the manual at the bottom of the page on timing. Before you loosen the screws at the top & bottom of the points plate ,I suggest you scratch a line on the edge of the timing cover opening & onto the points plate as a reference mark. Also the choke should be open ,held flat by a watch spring on the out side of the carb that is over ridden by the cable to engage the choke. Even with the choke closed the butterfly plate can be opened by air flow in or the tip of a finger or screw driver but would snap back closed richening the mixture . Also does the idle speed respond to adjustments to the idle air/mixture screw? If not remove the screw completely to see if the fine wire tip on the end of the screw has been broken off in the carb .If it has been broken off it is now blocking the idle passage allowing no idle mixture. That could account for the lean idle. If that is the case your $20 carb may be a paper weight now. Don`t get mad & throw it against the wall . Some one on this group had luck using a STRONG vacumn line from a car manifold to suck the wire tip out of his c70 carb. Compressed air does NOT work . Too many holes to plug so the air would need to push the broken tip out. I really hope your Idle air/mixture screw is not broken off in the carb ,but if it is that explain a lot of ????????? . Like why the carb was $20. Good Luck! Baby Huey

set to stock gap can you adjust timing?

chokes not engaged no idea if it's backwards

>Impossibly small idle jet?
35 some letter and yes it is tiny. but i have no comparison o wait i have a stock idle jet i'll see if that is bigger.
> Missing main jet holder (jet sits too high in the bowl)?
i have a main jet holder
> Slide needle taper/length completely wrong for this engine/carb?
it's a four stroke needle, should i just do the ghetto trick and grind down the end?
> Clogged idle jet, air screw adjustment off, clogged air passages (I
know it's new - just sayin').
clean, i do keep rechecking to make sure i didn't miss any thing. and i'll try fiddling with the mixture screw and needle adjustments tomorrow?
> 20mm is oversize for that engine. 18/19 would be more appropriate.
a 20 $ carb is hard to pass up on and i come from 2 stokes people run 20's on 50cc one speeds...
>You've built a C90 engine with the 88 kit.
thank you i just want it to go like a c 90 engine or a c110
> Only thing is - your C90 has too much air intake and too little exhaust flow.
thats the next project give me a couple months before i can get some metal and a welder.
