C70's don't make very good dirt bikes, and when a collector like us eventually gets them down the road who wants them for what they were intended for we shake our head in sadness as we go over it noting how the previous owner abused the poor thing as a dirt bike. lol If you could find a CT90 or 110 however, those are similar to the C70 but are excellent dirt bikes and still street legal as well. CT90's often pop up pretty cheap in my area.
To know the year just check the VIN plate. It's on the left. If that's missing or obscured for some reason there's a fairly simple formula you can use to determine the year of all US model C70's.
* If the tank/seat is a separate piece and/or the key is in the side cover, it's not a Passport but a pre-80 model C70 or Super Cub.
* If the decal on the tank says "HONDA C70" and the key is on the left fairing, it's a 1980.
* If the decal on the tank says "Honda Passport" and the key is on the left fairing, it's a 1981.
* If the key is on the handlebars and the rear shocks attach to little "arms" that rise up off the swingarm, it's a 1982.
* If the key is on the handlebars and the rear shocks are longer so that they can attach directly to the swingarm, it's a 1983.
* If it's Canadian, there is sometimes a 1984 model, which I believe is identical to 1983.
The most common year model, at least from what I've seen, is 1981.
