RE: [Honda-C70] '82 C70 Fuel Leak

I agree with Bill that if after tapping the float bowl your float still seems stuck you need to go inside the float bowl to check/fix it. Two things I recommend you get are a sucker with a paper/cardboard stick , tootsie pop is perfect. And one wire from a brass BBQ grill brush . The sucker stick is to put in the hole that the float needle came out of to twist & turn to try to wipe the seat clean & the sucker end is to calm you down while you are doing this " heart surgery " on your carb. The brass wire is to poke through the jets to help clean them while you are in there anyway . The brass wire is the only thing small enough to fit the jet on my 81 that I have found & it is brass same as the jet so little chance it could drill the jet out to a new size like guitar wire of steel . By the way dip the end of the sucker stick in rubbing alcohol to give it some solvent . Then don't forget & put the stick in your mouth . Good Luck ! Baby Huey

The link to manuals on this group has the 82 addendum. Honda did not make a Shop manual for the 1982-84 C70
just a addendum to the 1980-81 Shop manual. It is some 31 pages. You start out looking in the Addendum, if the info is not
there you go to the front of the book and look in the 1980-81 section.

The 1982 carb uses a plastic float, just like the 80-81 but they do crack so that could be the problem.
Only way to tell is pull the carb and inspect it, probable needs cleaned anyway.

Has anyone else had a problem with a fuel leak from the carb? I believe the problem is the float and I can't get it to free up by rapping on the outside. I suspect it may have a leak and has "sunk" in the bowl. Many of these were originally made of brass. A pin hole will flood them and they won't float anymore. Also I have some good manual info on the '81 model, but my bike is an '82. Are the virtually the same?

Thanks for the advice Bill. I did do some rapping with a small brass hammer to try to dislodge the stuck float but no luck. If I take it aprt I may replace the screws with the allen head type.

Well first you can take a plastic handle of a screw driver or hammer and tap the side of the carb to dislodge the
float. If that does not work you will have to remove the float bowl and remove the float and float needle valve
to see if there is dirt holding it open or if the float is cracked and full of gas.

My bike has developed a fuel leak whenever I open the fuel valve (in either position regular or reserve). It leaks out the bottom of a couple of lines from the carb to the ground. I had read that it may be a cracked float or a float stuck in the down position. The lines that are leaking permit fuel to drain out if the float bowl becomes too full.

Has anyone else had this problem and how did you resolve it?
