I don`t know about your 82/83 hydraulically adjusted . But too tight would put a strain on the cam & crank bearings & could do a lot of damage if it causes the chain to break. The instructions I used from a chilton's big book were to tighten until the cam chain started to whine then back off 1 turn so that some slack is still there. Baby Huey
