Jill : If I remember right your 83 with a now cracked crank case motor has never run right so putting more money into it might be money wasted. So finding a used 12v motor might be a better bet even a used 12 v bottom end & move you top end to it . Or putting in a new Lifan 12v motor would be much less of a conversion headache than others have fitting a 12v motor in a 6v bike .You already have a 12 volt battery, coil, lights & the wider foot pegs needed . Since you already can take you old motor apart [more than many of us old folks are brave enough to do] sell it part by part to raise the money to replace it with hopefully a good running motor. dratv has a section on converting to a Lifan . Read that to see if it sounds doable for YOU so you don`t need to pay a mechanic $50 an hour to "fix it " like I eventually did to find all I needed was a new spark plug cap & my points cleaned. The engine block appears to be going for $70 on ebay, or you could get a new Lifan from dratv.com

Both have their benefits. The new block keeps it stock & once you're done you're done. The new MOTOR means a break-in period, higher price & a good amount of rewiring.
