RE: [Honda-C70] 1981 C70 Passport - Sprocket Bolt Question

Chris : Are you talking about the washer under the bolt that you are supposed to bend the side up against the flat of the bolt to lock it in place ? If you can get the correct hardened bolts from a store you should be OK to use them . But you don`t want regular soft bolts that might snap off jam the sprocket & chain & send your back wheel sliding down the road . Even if you like to live dangerously the person behind you may not want to run over you . Baby Huey

Subject: [Honda-C70] 1981 C70 Passport - Sprocket Bolt Question

Hi,

Recently my sprocket bolts have been coming loose. The first couple of years riding this did not happen. A couple of the bolt heads are stripped out now and dratv only had two available when I ordered new ones a few weeks ago. My questions are as follows:

Is there some trick to keeping these tight? It seems a socket will not fit with the "washer" underneath for tightening and only a wrench will work.

Will some type of thread lock work or is that just causing trouble down the road?

Is it okay to get a similar size bolt from the bolt store or is it better to use the OEM bolt?

Thanks,

Chris
