[Honda-C70] Re: Issues at high speed

Sounds to me like either you have some obstruction in the carb, or you just arent getting enough flow to fill the bowl fast enough. this a problem i have a lot on my 2 stroke hondas, it alsmost always ends up being a bad petcock or a partially clogged inlet or float needle/seat. do make sure that cap is cleaned though, there are 2 vent holes and my c70 was completely gunked shut when i first got it.

Good luck, I also just got my first 10k+ c70, and live in ks. the 110+ temps dont bother me as much as the 110+ degree winds that were trying to blow me off my bike last night.

I took it for a ride this morning out to my grandmas and it did the same thing....bogging down noise and died. I waited a few minutes and I was good to go. On the way home it ran perfectly no issues, so I dont know.

Racers need to tune the jets to match the exhaust/intake of the bike. Try a little choke at high speed to richen the mixture & see if that helps it run better. A spark plug color check might also help determine if you are rich, lean or just right. Black is rich ,brown [coffee with cream ] good ,white is lean. If your vent cap were plugged & causing a vacuum the bike would likely die in 2or3 miles of slow riding. Test by turning the petcock off ,go for a slow ride until it dies ,compare to your high speed cut out. I almost forgot a high speed miss or cut out can also mean your points air gap has worn closed over time & the coil is not getting enough dwell time to recharge for the next plug fire. Does a full gas tank over less than 1/2 make a difference? That points to fuel lines or the pipes out of the tank . Good Luck ! Baby Huey

As I've been replacing old parts and restoring it the best I can; I noticed that the previous owner cut the end of the exhaust pipe off were it starts to taper back down...So I'm left with a megaphone type exhaust. At high speeds my C70 sometimes cuts out....it sounds like I'm not getting enough fuel. After I let it sit and loosen the gas cap (just in case its not venting) it starts right back up. So I'm thinking that

Granted I don't think that having crud in my fuel lines or a vent cap thats not venting are related, but this is my first step into the world of valved engines and I didn't know if the exhaust would cause to much flow through the engine. Thanks!
