| ‘Senna’ Biopic Website Lists Dates And Cities Posted: 05 Aug 2011 05:50 AM PDT Ayrton Senna da Silva died on May 1, 1994, when his Williams Renault left the track and hit a concrete barrier at the Tamburello corner during the San Marino Grand Prix. Officially, the accident happened when Senna's car, on cold tires and a full fuel load, bottomed out and momentarily lost traction. Although the car left the track at almost 190 miles per hour, Senna had slowed the car down to 135 just before the moment of impact, and his Williams hit at what appeared to be a glancing blow. If you've seen the crash, it strikes you as unremarkable; many drivers have walked away from far worse impacts. For Senna, it was not to be; the Brazilian driver, who many consider to be the greatest F1 driver of all time, was killed by blunt force trauma from the impact of the right front wheel against his helmet, coupled with two penetrating head wounds from suspension uprights. If Senna was a legend during his career, he'd become the closest thing to racing's patron saint after his death. Trying to capture the essence of a personality like Senna's is near impossible. Those close to him considered Senna to be almost a force of nature, not just another headstrong athlete. He was a driver that physically could not accept losing, and his battles with other stars of the era (especially Alain Prost) are the stuff of legend. "He never wanted to beat me," Prost said of Senna, "he wanted to humiliate me. He wanted to show the people he was much better." Of their on-track rivalry, Senna had a different perspective, saying, "All drivers go for their limits. My limits are different from Prost's." If you ever saw Senna race, chances are you'll do everything in your power to see his biopic, "Senna," now in limited release nationwide. If you never saw the complete mastery that Senna displayed on a wet racetrack, or his utter indifference towards anything but crossing the finish line first, the movie is a look into an era of Grand Prix racing that's come and gone. Today's drivers have talent, but Senna was the last of the Formula One giants, who put everything on the line each and every time they strapped into a race car. For dates, showtimes and cities, check out the official "Senna" website. |

| Lexus Teases New 2013 GS350 Before Concours Debut Posted: 04 Aug 2011 01:24 PM PDT Lexus has already teased us a few times with “spy” videos of the new 2013 GS350 on testing grounds wrapped up in black camo. Now they have teased us with a new frontal image of the 2013 GS which looks to be very similar to the LF-Gh Concept car. We will expect the new 2013 Lexus GS to have a 3.5-liter V6 engine making over 300 horsepower. Look for the 2013 Lexus GS350 to debut at the upcoming Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on August 18th. |
| 5th Infiniti JX Teaser Image Reveals Rear-End Posted: 04 Aug 2011 12:30 PM PDT Infiniti has released its 5th teaser image via Facebook leading up to the official introduction of their new 7-passenger crossover, the all-new Infiniti JX. The new image looks to be a cross between the current QX56 and FX SUVs. The new JX, being a CUV, should prove to be a more attractive purchase over the big QX aka Land Yacht in more ways than one. Look for the Infiniti JX to debut at this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in just a few weeks. |
| 2012 Buick Regal GS Priced from $35,310 Posted: 04 Aug 2011 11:51 AM PDT Automotive enthusiasts are really loving the performance numbers coming out of American automakers lately. One “performance” area that comes as a surprise to enthusiasts is the all-new 2012 Buick Regal GS. Power for the new Regal GS is rated at a respectable 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This power comes from an Ecotec 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with direct injection.
The new 2012 Buick Regal GS will have a price starting at $35,310 plus destination charge. Another shocker is the new Regal GS will sport a 6-speed manual transmission while a 6-speed automatic mill is planned for a late release into the year 2012. EPA fuel consumption figures should come in around 28 mpg on the highway. Buick's Interactive Drive Control System combined with adaptive suspension comes on the new Regal GS allowing adjustment of the shock damping and other driver functions. 19-wheels are standard on the new 2012 Regal GS while 20-inch polished alloy wheels are available as an option. 12-way adjustable sport-seats, leather trim, leather wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, Harmon Kardon stereo system, bi-xenon headlights, 120-volt accessory power outlet and push button start are some other features you can expect on the 2012 Regal GS. |
| Ayrton Senna’s McLaren MP4-6 Up For Auction Posted: 04 Aug 2011 08:19 AM PDT The problem with buying a historically significant race car is that your significant other doesn't always appreciate its value as fine art. You may think that Nigel Mansell's 1989 Ferrari F640 goes great in your family room, but I suspect your wife will want it relegated to the garage. What if you could blend the best of both worlds, and turn a one-of-a-kind race car into art that everyone (well, almost everyone) could appreciate? That's exactly what McLaren did with Ayton Senna's title-winning 1991 McLaren MP4-6. Rather than leaving the car intact, McLaren disassembled the car and gave it to artist Jay Burridge, whose treatment will be familiar to anyone who's ever assembled a plastic model kit. Yes, a lot of components are missing, such as the engine, monocoque, seat, steering wheel, instruments, wheels, tires and the rest of the bits that make a race car, but there's still enough there to make it historically significant. Besides, it's sculpture now, so your wife (or husband) can't possibly complain when you mount it to the wall in the living room or dining room. If you want to take a chance at owning the MP4-6-turned-wall-art, it will be up for bid at next weekend's Coy's Auction at the Nürburgring. It's expected to go for between $50,000 and $82,000, so be sure that you've got the money in the bank before you start phoning in your bids. I don't have a wall big enough for it, otherwise I'd be selling my organs on the black market to raise cash. Source: Autoblog |
| Pittsburgh Steeler Coach Wins Big By Taking Loss On His SL500 Posted: 04 Aug 2011 08:16 AM PDT Ray Horton was the secondary coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, until he recently accepted a job as defensive coordinator with the Arizona Cardinals. A cross-country move usually involves shedding things like cars, bikes and furniture, and an NFL coach selling a used Mercedes-Benz roadster isn't exactly headline news. How Horton sold his car, on the other hand, is worth mentioning. On his last day at his old job, Horton went down to say goodbye to the cafeteria staff at the Steeler's offices. When he ran into Maurice "Mo" Matthews, a 20-plus year Steelers employee, Horton approached his and asked a favor. "How much money you have in your pocket?", Horton asked. "I got $20," was Matthews' reply. What happened next is almost enough to restore your faith in humanity. Horton took the $20 bill from Mo, reached in his pocket and tossed the cafeteria worker the keys to his 1999 Mercedes-Benz SL500. "Sold for $20," was Horton's comment. The next day, Horton had Matthews drive him to the airport and handed over the title to the car. It's not a new Mercedes, and the twelve-year-old car has some 64,000 miles on the odometer, but it still has a retail value far in excess of the $20 Mo paid for it. If Mo were to list it on eBay, I suppose he could get at least $10,000 for it, possibly more now that the car has celebrity status. Somehow I doubt that car is ever getting sold again, at least not while Mo Matthews is still alive. Source: Motor Authority |
| Cadillac To Launch ATS Compact Luxury Sedan in 2012 Posted: 04 Aug 2011 07:23 AM PDT Cadillac has done some amazing things at the hand of GM's retooling and successful emergence from bankruptcy. They have the fastest production sedan, they been around for over 100 years now and they are set to inject the market in 2012 with a direct competitor to the BMW 3 Series and Benz C Class. Cadillac has said it will expand its model lineup with a new ATS Compact Luxury Sedan. The new vehicle, currently code named ATS, will be built on a Cadillac-specific RWD and AWD architecture. The elements of the new sedan will be sure to give its competitors a run for its money considering how Cadillac as stated that they have "…extensively and exhaustively studied the competitive segment, and we have benchmarked the best. And when this car comes out, that will be readily apparent." The new ATS will be built along side of its slightly bigger sibling, the CTS, at Landing Grand River, Michigan starting next summer. We are more than anxious to see what Cadillac has to offer in this segment. For now enjoy the attached image from Cadillac that we added a few extra highlights to revealing the true 'look' of the new ATS. Press Release
