Thanks, I sorta get it, I'll have to do a bit more research. I have a 81 Honda express and if has one, I sure don't know where it is.Michael

The rectifier is a one way gate for electrical alternators. The original ones where from selenium. They have large thin cooling plates
sandwiched by small diameter thick plates. the stack up and places they tap the power (ie 2 wire or 4) is governed by the design of
the alternator design. The number of coils the alternator has govers the number of wires They trade name is full wave rectifiers and 1/2 wave.
Today most people go to solid state rectifiers. The old ones were not as effective and stopping the reverse
flow of current. Solid state ones are much better and then do not tend to short out and drain the battery like the old style.

Hi, I am still looking for my C70, Cub, Passport, whichever I can get so am going to ask this newbie question. What is a rectifier and what does it do? How does a two wire one do the same thing as a 4 wire one? or is that vice versa?ThanksMichael

Life is funny like that. Those are exactly what I have. I'm going to go radioshack and solid state and see how that flys. My first priority is to see of the engine fires. In re radioshack, I'll probably get a catalog from them tomorrow ! Ha!
