Hooked up battery to my 1970 recently acquired C70M. The red wire that goes up to the rectifier gets hot within seconds and begins to melt. !st, ?, why would this be happening. Second question, if there is a short somewhere causing this, can I disconnect all the wires to the rectifier to see if this scoot will start with the kick starter? Should the electric start work without the rectifier wires hooked up? I don't care about any lights right now, just want t check engine to see if it will run.
