Mike,
Your C70M has a full-wave bridge rectifier. This means it has 4 wires, not two like many of the C70's use. Other Hondas (CT90) use the 4 wire rectifier. It is easily and cheaply replaced.
Posted some time ago on making your own rectifier, but the wiring colors do not match your C70M. Posted a new file that covers it.
The file is in Electric Systems 1-2-3's
Open the file "Make your own rectifier for the C70M.pdf"
Disconnect the battery first.
Cut the wires with crimped-on fittings from the old rectifier.
Keep as much wire as possible.
As Baby Huey already noted, the old rectifier is toxic.
Wear gloves pulling it off, bag it when done.
The old rectifier should have these wires:
Red (to battery +)
Brown (to engine)
Yellow (to engine)
Green (ground)
You can use crimp-on connectors, or solder the wires to the new rectifier. Bolt it to the chassis, insuring the ground connection is made.
Hope that helps,
Jon Pardue
