[Honda-C70] Re: battery tester... Any oppinion Jon Purdue?

The Harbor Freight load tester heats a hefty nichrome wire. As someone else noted, it is designed to load an automotive-sized battery. While it is easy to modify one of these testers for motorcycle batteries, these things can actually damage a small batteries because it appears as a dead short circuit.

If there is any interest in how to modify the load tester, speak up and I will do a How-To on it.

My own load tester is a couple of high-wattage resistors. If you only work on bikes now and then, a headlight bulb makes an excellent load tester.

First test: check specific gravity with the hygrometer. Then charge it and load test to determine if the battery is capable of taking on enough charge to act as a Voltage regulator.
