RE: [Honda-C70] restoring an '83

Ben : First of all the headlight only works with the motor running. So don`t look for a headlight to work until the motor starts. If the bike was ever started with a dead, weak,or missing battery the headlight will have burned out in 2 seconds if the bike revved above idle. Headlight runs on AC power directly off the generator. All other lights ,horn ,& electric starter run off the battery DC power after the generator power goes through a rectifier that changes the AC to pulsed DC to charge the battery. The ignition has a separate generator coil to power the CDI unit ,ignition coil ,& spark plug through the kill switch, ignition switch & neutral safety switch. You said the electric starter button works . If that is true then the motor IS turning over. Try holding the spark plugs threads against the cylinder fins to complete the circuit & KICK start it in a dark place to make it easier to see if the plug fires. Good Luck ! Baby Huey

Subject: [Honda-C70] restoring an '83

hi everyone. I'm trying to restore an '83 passport and this is my first real experience with engines. So I replaced the carb, got a new battery, and have been fixing things up on it, it's fun. But yesterday when I got that battery I thought that would be the last thing and I'd be on the road. Wrong. Nothing happened. The horn works, the break light and push button starter work, but the engine never turns over, and it has ran shortly in the past(this has been a slow, 5 year ordeal). From what I can tell the spark plug(purchased yesterday) isn't sparking. I should see a spark, right? Does the headlight need to work and be installed to make the circuit complete? any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Ben
