Well for me sometimes it is just too darn hard to understand what the problem is
because the person does not post a picture (I know hard to do) or
they do not tell us what parts book they are using and the part "ID" ref number
so we can look and see what the problem is.
There are parts books and shop manuals on this site to make it easy.

I could only speculate that the previous owner of your C70 may have atempted to remove the retaining ring with a screw driver instead of a retaining ring remover and therefore bending the end of it prior you buying it. After all, how many C70 owners own the complete Honda C70 recommended factory tool set. If the problem is a common problem, trust me, most of the members will chime in and advice you how to do it.
