Subject: [Honda-C70] Re: I need advise on weather to restore a 81 c70 or part it out
Hello ?
Extra value for having a title. That makes it worth repairing in my opinion. The 70cc engine is small and easy to work on, and parts are available and not expensive. There are free shop manual and owner's manuals in the files section. All you need is a few tools and a 'corner' of a garage to work on it :)
How locked? Rear wheel locked and in gear? Or rear wheel free, in neutral but crankshaft won't turn? Or kick starter stuck? Or kick starter moves but engine crankshaft doesn't? Lots of different ways to be 'locked up'.
First is to do no more damage to the engine, so read all of the owner's manual, then all of the shop manual. Then studying a passport C70 '80-'81 parts list, especially the engine pictures will give you a sense of what internal parts are where.
Now you can proceed to discover what is actually wrong with the engine. Then knowing what actually is wrong, the shop manual will lead you to the correct method of fixing what is actually wrong. It might be something easy and simple!
If you choose not to master the design of this motorcycle and its engine, you will be at the mercy of those who claim to have mastered it, and you will never be sure if they are! Better to become knowledgeable yourself, even if you don't do 100% of the repairs. You will save lots of money and time if you do it yourself. You also will gain confidence to venture out and trust that your motorcycle will get you to your destination. If you do master your Passport, you can take that knowledge to many other motorcycles equally well, even ones that aren't Honda.
This is only the largest Honda Yahoo motorcycle group, and there are plenty of experts here. Too much 'soap boxing', back to the garage, it's spring time...
