Subject: [Honda-C70] C70 Gas Tank
Hello all. I'm a newbie here and just wanted to drop a note and thank you
regarding all of the great info I've found on the group. I recently purchased
what is basically a big pile of (3) '80-'81 Passports and some brand new parts
for $200 (made out like a bandit as far as I'm concerned). I plan on creating
one good one from said pile and I'm into the thick of it now.
The main thing I want to comment on now is gas tank cleaning. I read the
descriptions of all of the various methods for de-rusting and I was pretty sure
I was going to go big-guns because I thought I had some muriatic acid taking up
space in my garage. It turned out that I had forgotten that I gave it to our
local hazardous waste collection so I reverted to plan B, the salt and vinegar
treatment. A-Maze-ing! I de-rusted two tanks and they went from rusty disgusting
to clean (but slightly pitted) metal in 2-3 days. Who knew. Now I have two
gallons of old salty vinegar in a trash can that I've been using to de-rust
other parts. Great tip!
