Have you tried tripping the starter directly by jumping the two terminals on the solenoid with a wrench, to verify there is nothing flaky with the start switch, start solenoid or neutral switch assemblies? And if so, have you checked and cleaned the contacts at both ends where the big starter cable connects to the solenoid and to the side of the starter? If all that definitely IS good, I would suspect flaky brushes or something inside the starter. But so far, all 3 C70's I've owned have come to me with a non-working starter, and it has always turned out to be something other than the motor itself.

It is now working 2 out of 3 times when tryed especially if I tap the end of the starter with a screw driver handle or rubber mallat. Ron in NJ did you win your side bet on what the cause of " Blue Baggers " death was. I can`t think of any reason why the starter would now work better unless all the wires I unpluged to test I improved a loose conection/s. Any thoughts anyone ?
