[Honda-C70] A Better Battery

I've found that a 7.2 volt NIMH battery pack, like the ones used in RC cars will replace the lead acid battery just fine.

I've been running on one for two months now, and nothing has burned out yet, even after 10-mile WOT excursions through the countryside.

In addition, the headlight is brighter, turn signals actually become visible in daylight, and the horn no longer sounds like a dying animal!

The whole pack is a lot lighter than the lead acid, and no more risk of acid spills or of burning out bulbs when the battery dies.

To test what happens when the NIMH pack eventually dies, I ran the C70 with a completely discharged NIMH pack and all the bulbs survived, though they were nearly too dim to see. This is unlike the consequences of a dead lead-acid battery, which would blow out all the bulbs.

The only thing that doesn't work is the electric starter motor. But that barely worked with a lead-acid battery anyway. :P

In conclusion, if you're in need of a new battery and possess simple wiring skills (needed to wire the NIMH pack into the electrical system), you should consider heading to the local hobby shop, rather than the auto shop, to pick up a 7.2V NIMH battery pack to replace the OEM lead-acid battery used in the C70.
