Re: [Honda-C70] ouch! exhaust burn... again :(

Hi, Message to all. DO NOT RIDE IN SHORTS AND SANDALS! ALWAYS WEAR A  HELMET, GLOVES, AND EYE PROTECTION. No whining.

Sorry to hear about the burns.

I picked up two pretty decent burns from my Passport with a minor one or
two for good measure. The last of major burn required a visit to the doctor
that is still one of the most painful doctor visits I can remember. It was
also the last burn I received from the bike, and that was 25 years ago. The
scar is basically only visible to me.

I still ride, and for better or worse almost exclusively in shorts. I have
ridden to work everyday the last two weeks, for example. I didn't make any
changes to the bike, however. I think I just got a little smarter and
little more careful.

Height may be a factor. While I am not super tall, I can straddle the bike
with a lot of leeway on either side.

The really bad burn occurred when my college roommate caused us to tip over
at a stop and my leg was briefly pinned under the pipe. Perhaps it was the
smell of burning flesh on the pipe the next few rides that wised me up. :^)

Good luck.

PS - Someone on a yellow Passport rode past my house this weekend. I have
seen this bike go by a couple of times before. Once again, the young person
riding the bike was saved the embarrassment of being flagged down by a
crazy old dude because of slow reflexes.
