If you are looking to renew the wheels while you have them off, you should clean and inspect the brake drum, brake shoes and backing plate. Clean and lube the brake
cam. If you have the Honda open on one side bearings on the wheels and rear drive hub
then you can remove the outer hub seal and clean the wheel bearings and repack them.
If you have sealed on both sides I normally leave them alone if they feel good
or just replace them, they are normally 5-6$ each and a good bearing supply house.
As for the drive chain, a good cleaning, I like to soak it but I have now been told
that is not the best way to go. Just clean the outside and relube it. Works better if
you clean and lube it before you take it off!!

Hi,
I am going to put on new tires on my 1982 C70. I thought I read a post here about other stuff you might want to do when you change a tire, such as clean the chain, etc. I searched, but couldn't find the info.
Anyone have advice + step-by-stepinstructions for extra things to do while wheels are off (especially the rear wheel)?
I don't need info about changing tires (already found that here), just info about what else to inspect, clean, etc.
TIA,
-d
