RE: [Honda-C70] V8 Speedsource muffler sound volume 'fix'

I'm looking for a whisper quiet muffler. My stock muffler sounds a little loud
near where the muffler bolts up to the other pipe?
And yes, I'm not very versed on changed out a muffler. I understand it on a car, but
is there a quieter muffler I can buy for my 82 C70?
Thanks.

William: That sounds like a cleaner baffle than the old " snuffer" that was sold in the 60`s . For the younger folks , the snuffer was a flat washer with a bolt welded to one side . You removed the stock baffle & threaded the bolt through the stock baffle bolt hole so that the washer could ether block or turned not block the out let of the muffler or straight pipes.  Snuffed the sound & performance at the same time as I remember.   Baby Huey

I got bored today, and somewhat inspired. While trying intermittently to
get my '82 road-worthy the past few weeks along with the various 'italian
tune-up' runs through the private roads, I've been somewhat afraid of
pissing off the neighbors - all 110 of them in the condo townhouse
subdivision that I'm in, with the excessive volume of the V8 Speedsource
aftermarket exhaust.

The V8 Speedsource pipe basically turns a relatively whisper quiet C70 into
a somewhat obnoxiously loud scooter, IMHO. While I'm somewhat deaf - I'm
sure the neighbors aren't. I'd say that the volume of the exhaust was only
slightly less than what my Bandit 1200cc with a Hindle street pipe (with the
packing blown out LONG ago) puts out. Still, I'd likely have left the
exhaust alone, but for the neighbor factor.

Anyway, my fix was elegantly simple. 1/2 inch plate aluminum bar stock,
meets 1 3/4" hole saw chucked into my heavy duty drill press. About 2 hrs
working at the resulting core with both coarse and fine rasps, and I ended
up with a 1 5/8" inner diameter plug that fit in very nicely via
friction-fit and gentle tapping with a hammer to persuade it in place into
the outlet of the V8 Speedsource exhaust. I drilled out a 1/2 inch outlet
hole into the plug, and gave the bike a go.

Results - volume reduced substantially. I can actually hear the mechanical
noise of the motor again. Increased back-pressure is also making the motor
happier. The pipe still sounds great, but without the excessive
obnoxiousness, and appearance wise the mod is clean with no
drilling/affixing of the insert required. I don't think that I will now
need to re-jet for that pipe.

Cost - $0.00, with handy scrap aluminium laying about. Just time involved.
