[Honda-C70] Honda c-70 1983 Shift Problem

 

So I took the right cover off and am still working on getting the clutch off because I need to get the center nut tool, but the gear shift spindle is rather loose. I can slide it back and forth about a 1/4 inch. Is that normal, or could that be my cause of a shifting problem?
